From now on, I will be blogging about scuba diving experiences and my marine conservation advocacy over at a new blog: Scuba DAVAO. It’s a community site and Dabawenyo divers are welcome!

Browsing through this month’s issue of Mabuhay magazine, I chanced upon the DVR-460 SportsCam by Swann Security. This waterproof mini digital video camera would be perfect for my new-found passion, scuba diving! I think it would be an indispensable gadget for documenting my dives (and for capturing evidence against errant divers).

Just for fun, I thought I’d Christmasize some of my blogs. In other words, following the practice of Google’s doodles, for one. For this site, I changed the logo to a cute Christmas tree, which I found thanks to IconFinder.com. Davao Delicious and Ang Dabawenyo both have Christmasized headers as well.

Finally — after 3 years!! — I got dabawenyo.com for myself. When I moved my I-love-Davao from Blogger to WordPress in February 2007, I wanted a good domain name for the new Web presence. Of course, all the names with just “davao” in it were already taken (including davao.net, which I used to own but [...]

9th of September 2009, a day of no particular significance other than its nifty abbreviation: 09-09-09. Come to think of it, this kind of date contraction comes only once every hundred years. To celebrate 09-09-09, I did 9 noteworthy things today: (1) I started a major online project; (2) bought a new domain that I [...]

Been über-busy these past couple of weeks (WordCamp, MBS3, etc.) that I haven’t been blogging at all… My food blog has a backlog now, and my Davao blog’s hardly getting updated anymore. Sheesh. Hopefully I can get back on track soon!

Several Davao bloggers and I had the privilege to meet in person the U.S. ambassador to the Philippines, Kristie Kenney, this morning at the Ateneo de Davao University college library. At one point, we were talking about traveling across Mindanao, so I mentioned to her about Matt’s visit to Davao in September 2008. Me: “Matt Mullenweg [...]Copyright © 2009, Oliver Robillo.

If you set your blog’s timezone in WordPress (e.g., GMT +8) before WP2.8.1, make sure to go back to your dashboard’s general options and update this setting. I don’t know why, but WP has now junked GMT in favor of UTC. When I checked, my blogs’ timezone setting had become UTC +8 (which does not output the same timezone at all). On the Web, resources say that there’s very little difference between Greenwich Mean Time and Coordinated Universal Time. However, I noticed that, after upgrading to WP2.8.1, my blog was saying a post time of 8 hours earlier!

Anyway, now you can specify either your timezone by UTC value, or by the nearest city to you (organized by continent: Manila is under Asia). I’m not nitpicking, but this furtive change caused some problems with scheduled posting. Honestly, what was wrong with GMT??

I got a comment yesterday from one of my Japanese-blog readers, and I translate: “I’m waiting for your next article!” And my last post before today was dated 25 January 2008. So, to inspire myself to go back to updating 真ん丸空間, I changed WordPress themes, as I am wont to do.

Since Maru’s Space is a personal blog, much like this one, I decided on using the same theme as Blogie Blog, but with a slightly different color scheme. It’s all in Japanese, though, so if you don’t know Nihongo, just try to appreciate the look and feel. ;)

Need to publish events on your WordPress-powered blog? Here’s a great plugin for just that:   Events. It’s what I use for my Upcoming Events section on AngDabawenyo.com. See it in action

Events Page @ AngDabawenyo.com

There are, however, a few things that I’d like to see added to this plugin’s features. My wish list:

  • Image uploader and corresponding settings for display of uploaded images; or, integration with WordPress’ media library
  • Improved html/php parser — when inserting event details text in the sidebar widget, html code is not parsed properly, which results in unterminated html containers
  • Google Maps integration
